# Calculate Sum of Field in Found Sets

Calculate Sum of Field in Found Sets

### Post

Hmm, so I have done a fair amount of searching and not sure if I have found an answer to this. What I want to do is to sum a field from each found set together to acquire a "grand total" of sorts for the specific found set.

I basically need a way to sum up a set of "lots" that all relate to an order (order number - lot number) to compare to another number (this is the easy part). Found sets seem to be the easiest way to separate the specific lots that are linked to an order. If there is a better way, definitely up for it. Thanks!

Use a Summary field. Summary fields compute the total over all the records in your found set, so these would seem to be made to order for this task. (And they can also be used to produce subtotals for sorted groups of records within the found set...)
