Both threads have example files and screenshots in them.
And please don't hesitate to ask specific questions here. This forum is at its best, IMO, when newbies ask questions and knowledgeable folks such as DaSaint reply back with generous, thoughtful answers that often include demo files you can download and examine.
Alternatively "Lynda" has really great training video's. They are screencasts explained by people with voices that are really easy to listen to :)
