"?" could not be created on disk.

      FileMaker Pro

      Operating system version

      Description of the issue

After uploading files, such as PDFs, to Filemaker through JDBC, users cannot download these files using the "Download" button.

      Steps to reproduce the problem

1.) Create a Java program that connects to a Filemaker program remotely.
2.) In this program, upload files using PutAs statements as per the Filemaker JDBC guide.
3.) In Filemaker, on the page for the record with the uploaded file, click "Download" with regards to the file.

      Expected result

      The file downloads.

      Actual result

The file doesn't download, and an error appears.

Exact text of any error message(s) that appear

"?" could not be created on this disk. Use a different name, make more room on the disk, unlock it or use a different disk.

      Configuration information

Java program written in Eclipse using Java SE 6 as its JRE.

Right-clicking on the file container and selecting Save As... will download the file.

          Hi Maximillian Thayer,

          Thanks for posting.

Just to make sure we're on the same page, I'm assuming clicking "Download" refers to running a FileMaker script that saves the container field's file to a specified location.  If there are any other JDBC/FileMaker moving parts in that particular equation please let me know.

To start, please allow me to verify the following:
-In FileMaker, what is the result if the same PDF file uploaded through JDBC is inserted through Insert > File and the "Download" button is clicked?
-What is the result if a different file is inserted through Insert > File and the "Download" button is clicked?
-What were the values used in the PutAs (col, 'type') function and/or can you post an example of the full statement that was used?
-What Operating Systems have you been able to reproduce the issue on?

Also, it looks like we're running FileMaker Pro 11 v1.  Updating to FileMaker's latest version may help the avoidance of additional issues.  You can download the updates here:http://www.filemaker.com/support/downloads/
