"Allow Creation of Records via Relationship" not working

    JYM

      Summary

"Allow Creation of Records via Relationship" not working

      Description of the issue

We have a master table with four separate fields used as a combined key. We have created a relationship to a child table using these four fields as join fields in the relationship. The option to Allow Creation of Records via This Relationship has been selected in the child table. When there was a small amount of data this seemed to work as expected, now the database has grown larger, it does not create the related record despite being selected as an option. We see this behavior consistently. There are many separate child tables, all of which need to have records created when there are records added to the master table. If you can shed a light on this problem, that will help us a lot. We've been trying to 'rebalance' the child tables manually :smileysad:

          JYM:

          Thank you for your post.

I have several files with multiple keys (some with 2, some with 3, but none with 4).  In each occurrence, I'm able to add a record to the child table when no information appears in the portal once all key fields are entered.

I created a new database with two tables having four key fields (aptly named field1, field2, field3, field4), and I'm able to add without a problem.  I know you said this worked fine with a small set of records, so could you provide me the number of records in your tables?  I'd like to try and duplicate the problem and see if there is a problem within FileMaker Pro.

Thank you for the quick response. I have to revise the description of the problem.

It turns out we also have large number of child tables associated with a parent table. Large number of child tables is probably once cause of the problem. We have about 30 some tables associated to one parent table.

Below is generalized description of the table structure that have the problem. Table A and Table B are parent tables with various child tables. You may have to copy the content and import it into excel. Couldn't find a way to attach a file...
