A field in a portal on layout won't update as data is entered

    PJSpark

      Summary

A field in a portal on layout won't update as data is entered

      Product

      FileMaker Pro

      Version

      11

      Operating system version

      10.6.5

      Description of the issue

Three tables linked by an ID field. On a layout two of the tables are displayed in portals. While entering data in one portal, main table fields are updated, but the second portal that contains a calculation based on the calculated result of the main table does not update visually on the layout. If you click into the second portal's field the correct value is displayed with the cursor. Also, if you switch views or move to another record and back again, the correct value is displayed. So FM is calculating the result, just not updating it in real time with all the other fields on the layout. I suspect that the reason is that it is based on a calculated field and not a manually entered field.

If you get a number of Table Occurrences strung together such as data from portal 1 to parent table to table for portal 2, you can encounter screen refresh issues. This also can occur when referencing summary fields from a related table only one TO away.

One work around is to use a script trigger to perform a Refresh Window step when you exit the portal field being edited. You may also have to commit the record in this script, but if you do, be prepared to add more script steps to return the cursor to the correct field and row of your portal.
