Thank you for your post.
This is a design change in FileMaker Pro 12. Another customer on the forum has also encountered this issue. See:
I have attached your posting to the original report. If any changes are made, I will let you know.
thanks for the reply.
When you say it is a 'design change', are you saying that this is 'intended behaviour'?
TSGal, please forward this feedback to anyone at FileMaker Inc. to whom you think it may help:
Once upon a time, we could put all kinds of things into the header and extend them into the body. I have a Filemaker 10 file where a large block of layout text extends into the body, but it's truncated when I open and view the layout in version 11. Now with 12, this has been extended to graphic objects such as the vertical line--which has been a crucial design element for many layouts--especially layouts where sliding fields make it impossible to use field borders.
We once could put layout text that extended into a one or two pixel sub summary part to get a report where a category field printed in line with the first row of data for that sub summary group, but then lost that option with the upgraded releases. (gained that one back with conditional formatting, but it makes for a slower layout update--a major concern in filemaker 12...)
Each of these design changes have reduced our options for how we he set up our layouts. And we see no corresponsing added benefits here. The options for sliding fields, for example, haven't changed since FileMaker 2.5 as far as I can recall...You think by now we could set a field up to expand instead of just shrink...
I've been looking into this a little further. Playing around with various layout options with different Parts. It's a bit of a mess really. I was pleased to see FM finally work on FM's graphics abilities, but it looks like the fanfare is a little premature. I honestly find it amazing that something so basic can slip through beta testing. Ho hum.
I guess there are many many people using Line Items in invoice and quote layouts. Well, if you have related Line Items with sliding (which is required) the area below the lowest item, will not show that Part's borders. It has nothing to do with Trailing Grand Summaries. A simple layout with Header, Body, Footer will illustrate the problem.
I have attaached your comments to the original report.
Currently, this is a design change. However, there have been other users who don't like this change, and the feedback is being sent to Development and Testing for review. No other information is available at this time.
I would agree this is a really big issue, we rely on being able to span graphics from the header for letterheads etc on letter outputs - the option to do this needs to be urgently restored.
