Note: Latest version of FileMaker is 12.02--there's a free download to update 12.01 into 12.02.
This one threw me at first also, but it (the grey area to the right) represents a design change in version 12. Just as there has always been a "bottom" to your layout, there is now a right hand limit to it as well. Any objects to the right of that limit do not appear on your screen when in browse/preview/find modes--only in layout mode. You can use the mouse to drag this limit further to the right if you need a wider layout.
Thanks for the reply!
It's NOT to do with the new right hand limit in fmp12 layouts! It really is a refresh bug. (If you notice, the central rectangle is correctly centered on the page).
The desired effect is that of a centered dialog window within the layout. This we achieved in FM11 using layout objects that have NO anchors and the layout (body) length set to the same length as the contents. In FM11 this centers the contents, whilst expanding the background colour around it to fill the complete window size.
We have converted to fmp12 and have not touched the layout objects. The layout right hand limit is set to the width of the contents (I think 1px to the right of the right hand edge of the rectangle) - exactly as the layout length is the same length as the content.
In MOST cases we see exactly the same as in fm11, however, in some cases - notably when our navigation script switches to the layout - the area to the right - and sometimes above - the rectangle is not correctly redrawn.
the refresh problem has just occured again in FileMaker 12.0v3. This time I'm sending a complete Snapshot, so that you can see exactly what is being displayed by FileMaker.
This view occurs when our navigation script moves from the layout with the G-Logo in the top left corner to the search layout showing the box titled "Auswahl" in the middlle of the screen.
Somehow the top and right part of the layout are not being correctly displayed. The areas should be all white.
I shall try to recreate the error and give detailed information, but at the minute it is occuring on another users Mac.
Please 'bump' this!

Here is the start layout
and here is the end layout as it should be displayed.
And here is the destination layout in layout mode. Maybe the problem is caused by having no-anchors?
What happens if you add an extra "Refresh Window" script step after your script changes layouts?
Why not open the search screen in a modal window instead of changing to such a layout?
Neither option explains why the screen is not refreshing correctly but may provide you with a work around.
