    Calculation Field Issues

      Calculation Field Issues

      FileMaker Pro

      Operating system version

      MAC OSX

      Description of the issue

Need help filling in a field but only if it meets the following criteria:

Blank (about 70% of imported records will not have this field populated, but I don't want to overwrite the 30% that are populated)

Information should come from the matching table, set up like this:

      Table 1                                   Table 2
Subdivision (70% blank)           Subdivision (this is the field I would like transferred over)
      Zip Code                                 Zip Code
      Street name                            Street Name

SO, I would like to fill in the blank subdivisions with the correct subdivision, matching by zip code and street name. I think a calculated field is the best way to go about doing this, but so far my attempts come up short.

No calculation field is required to accomplish this task, but instead a find and a subsequent import.

If Table1 has a field with data that matches across all records in Table2:

               1. In Table1 do a find in the "Subdivision" field for:    ==

Note: == is for exact match so this will find all blanks.

               2. File > Import Records > File…

               3. Select the same database file to import

               4. Source: Table2 {table with data} ---- Target: Current Table (Table1){table to update records}

               5. Use the option to "Update matching records in the found set" and specify at least one field to match.
