I could not send you the sample file. How do I do that
To "attach" a file, you can upload it to a file sharing site and then include the download link in your post.
I don't think FileMaker can convert a dbf file. You can import the data from a dbf file, with a few limitations and use the new table command while doing so to create a new table in FileMaker. You won't have any of the scripts or forms from your foxpro, however. You'd need to create them from scratch in the new Filemaker file.
There's a third party tool out there called FMMigrator. I haven't used it, but you might see if it has anything to offer for this situation.
If any of your DBF fields are memo fields, see the following: Bug importing dBase data into File Maker Pro 10 Demo (OSX)
This is one of many acknowledged bugs that can be found in the Known Bug List here in the Report an Issue section of the forum.
It can also be downloaded as a database file from: http://www.4shared.com/file/8orL8apk/FMP_Bugs.html
I toyed a lot with importing dbf files and I gave up. I ended exporting the fospro files to excell and importing from that to FM.
Although one of the additions to fm11 advanced is dbf file import as mentioned in the website !!!
What kept an import of the DBF file from working for you?
It keeps telling me "The file could not be translated using the selected file type" and I guess it must be sensitive to the dbf version because the structure changed between foxpro versions. I am using vfp version 9 sp3 and fm11advanced v3.
If you need to refer the sample file to the development team to study it I will upload it but tell me to what site (give me a link or something)
Just to be clear, you used Import Records, didn't try to open the file with Open from the file menu...
Correct. I use import records then I choose file (as opposed to directory)
Thanks for posting.
A copy of the dbf file that this import fails with would be helpful. If you're willing to send this in, please check your inbox (at the top of this page) for further instructions.
