    Charts Sorting Backwards

    alc

      Summary

      Charts Sorting Backwards

      Product

      FileMaker Pro

      Version

      FMP Advanced 11.v2

      Operating system version

      OSX 10.58

      Description of the issue

If I sort records by whatever ascending, they appear as descending  & vice versa

so say I'm sorting Apples, Bear, Cat in ascending order, they sort correctly in list view but when I go to chart layout from top to bottom in Horiz Bar chart as follows:

      Cat

      Bear

      Apples

WHAT's THE DEAL? Is this a known bug

      Steps to reproduce the problem

      create a simple horizontal chart
      should it matter,
      my chart displayed averages.
the chart uses current found set
"Show data points for groups... " is checked
The field is sorted on was a calculation text field.

      sort the records ascending

      Expected result

      records in alphabetical order
      Apple
      Bat
      Cat

      Actual result

      Cat
      Bat
      Apple

      Workaround

had to create separate script to sort records backwards.

          Thank you for your post.

Horizontal Bar charts start with the value closest to the x-y axis and move upwards.  If you go into Layout Mode, you will see the values along the x-axis displaying A, B, C, D, E as you move upwards.  Therefore, sorting descendingly will put the last item alphabetically closest to the x-y axis.  Therefore, use descending sort to have your labels appear alphabetically from top to bottom.
