    Close File; Close Window Inoperable

    GerardBeutler

      Summary

      Close File; Close Window Inoperable

      Product

      FileMaker Go

      Version

      13.0.2

      Operating system version

      iOS 7

      Description of the issue

To initiate our solution we provide the client a launch file that opens the remote file and then close the launch file.

This worked fine for both FM 12 and FM Go 12.

For FM 13 it works as expected but with FM Go 13 it opens the remote file but will not close the launch file.

This has been implemented since FM 8 with no issues.

I do not believe that I am the only developer that uses this approach.

      The script steps:
Open File [ “remote file” ]
Close File [ Current File ]

What is interesting is that is says this should not work in 12, but it did.

Tried to do a Close Window instead of Close File with same results in 13.

      Steps to reproduce the problem

Open File [ “remote file” ]
Close File [ Current File ]

      Expected result

      Close File or Close Window

      Actual result

      Still Open

Exact text of any error message(s) that appear

      None

      Workaround

      None

               Gerard Beutler:

               Thank you for your post.

First, the "Close File" should be available for iOS in Knowledge Base Article #11708.  I have sent a message to the person responsible for the Knowledge Base Articles, and it should be updated shortly.

With that said, I am unable to replicate the issue.  This is what I have done:

               1. In FileMaker Pro 13, I created a database file,, "Test.fmp12",  with one field and one record.

               2. I then created a script exactly as yours:  That is:

               Open File [ <remote file> ]
               Close File [ Test.fmp12 ]

               3. I executed the script, and it closed Test.fmp12 after opening the remote file.

               4. I opened Test.fmp12, turned on Sharing, and then accessed the file via FileMaker Go 13.

               5. I executed the script, and the remote file opened.  I tapped Windows and saw that Test.fmp12 was no longer open, so the script worked as expected.

Let me know what I'm doing differently than you so I can try to replicate the issue.

                 That is not correct.

There are two files A and B

File A is the launch file.
File B is the solution file on a remote server.

                 File A has a 2 step script:
                 Open File [ "File B" ]
Close File [ Current File ]

Worked in FMP and FM Go 12
But only work in FMP 13.

                   Gerard Beutler:

Test.fmp12 is my launch file.  It contains the two step script.  My "Open File" step accessed a remote file, which would be your File B.  How is my script different?

Use Close File [ Current File ] instead of Close File [ Test.fmp12].

                       Gerard Beutler:

Test.fmp12 is the current file.  The script step shows:

Close File [ Current File ]

... but in the Specify section, it says "Current File ("Test.fmp12")

                       See the screen shot below.

The bottom line question is why does THE SAME FILE work on Go 12 but NOT on Go 13 for a client of mine.

The only item that is different is the application, same iPad, iOS, network connection etc.

I do not believe that trouble shooting has changed in that if only one item is changed and it does not work it must be the new item.

Therefore the only item that the client changed was using Go 13.

When he toggles between the apps the result is the same for him and me, Go 12 OK, Go 13 booooo.

But you saying that I have a problem but the problem only exist on Go 13.

It has to be Go 13.

Tell me why I am wrong.

Sorry for any miscommunication.  I never said you were having a problem or that you were wrong.  I just cannot replicate the issue.  I have given you my steps.

Have you tried with a different remote file?  If you want, send the file to me, and I'll try it here.  Check your Inbox at the top of this page for instructions where to send the file.

Found MY problem and it was the last place I looked.

Do not know why it never showed up before.

A Halt Script needed to be replaced with an Exit Script in the primary open script on the remote file being opened.

                             Excuse me for my frustration.
