    COMCTL32.dll fault

    dmors

      Summary

      COMCTL32.dll fault

      Product

      FileMaker Pro

      Version

      11.0v3

      Operating system version

      Windows 7

      Description of the issue

FileMaker Pro Advance periodically crashes after Adobe Acrobat X 10.1.2 update (unsure if this is related) which is reminiscent of the FMP v10 bug (when scrolling long scripts).  Crashes are widely disbursed, so far have happened spontaneously about three times a day since 2012.01.23.

      Steps to reproduce the problem

Accessing database from server over network; editing script, data-viewer and layout conditional formatting calculation.

Exact text of any error message(s) that appear

I am including four different window event reports:

          Thank you for your post.

The event log does show that FileMaker Pro 11 Advanced crash, but it does not specify if the problem is file related or not.  When this does happen, is it always occurring with the same database file?  Does this occur only with files being hosted from FileMaker Server?  Are you able to make the problem occur with local files?

Do you have access to another machine?  If so, are you able to duplicate the problem?

I have also been having this same issue with Filemaker Not Responding and Crashing. I've tried to install File Maker Pro and Pro Advanced and both crash with the following information from Event Viewer.

                   Troy Donovan:

                   Thank you for your post.

What are you doing at the time when FileMaker Pro becomes unresponsive/crashes?  That is, are you viewing a specific layout?  Exporting records?

The COMCTL32.dll file is installed by Windows, so reinstallation of FileMaker Pro is not going to change it.  Rather than reinstalling Windows, you may be able to fix it.  Using a browser search, I found:

              http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/comctl32-dll-not-found-missing-error.htm

Keep me updated with any progress.

I actually found that error while looking for at Event Viewer to find a solution to FileMaker hanging and not responding. The layout I go to has three portals in it and FileMaker becomes unresponsive, hangs and crashes. I know this layout is very CPU intense with my CPU Frequency at Max. Not sure if it's my hard drive trying to quit on me or an IRQ issue. Also as stated in the link you provided, the DLL could be corrupt.

Thank you for your quick reply
