constrain found set - > omit duplicates doesn't find a unique value

FileMaker Pro

Operating system version

OSX 10.6

Description of the issue

The database has a field of serial numbers and dates.  When I perform a Find using a date, I get 3404 returns.  I then sort by the serial number and most serials are in the list twice, but one serial number is only in the found set once.  I then go into find mode again and select "Omit" and find duplicate values in the serial number list, and the result I get is no records.  The serial number I am looking for is in the database several times, but only once on the day of the first found set that I am trying to constrain the find to.

Steps to reproduce the problem

Serial Day
123456 14
123456 14
123241 14
123232 14
123232 13
123241 13
123241 13
Find "13", then go into Find mode and "Omit" "Find Duplicates" in the Serial number column

Expected result

Serial Day
123232 13

Actual result

No records match

Exact text of any error message(s) that appear

No records match this set of requests

Find on the day (=13)
Export Records
open new database of exported records
find -> Omit -> Duplicate Values
then I get the correct result (123232)
