Summary

container with file inside will not open the file when double-clicked

Product

FileMaker Pro

Version

advanced 11.00

Operating system version

mac OS 10.6.5

Description of the issue

I have a container field that will allow me to insert a file (doc or pdf) to a database on my server running Filemaker server. However, when I double-click the container nothing happens. I expect the file to open in it's originating program but this does not happen. No error messages occur.

Steps to reproduce the problem

double-click a container field that had content.

Expected result

I expect the file to open in it's originating program but this does not happen.

Actual result

the files I am inserting in the container field are located on the server's harddrive along with filemaker server.
I recently upgraded to filemaker 11 from filemaker 9.
I need those files to open. I deleted a particular content in this container and re inserted it, to store the file in my database, and still no file is launched on double-click.

Exact text of any error message(s) that appear

no error messages

Configuration information

filemaker server running on my small network server.

Workaround

I tried having Filemaker export the file and that worked fine so obviously the container field has the content.
