After the paste, just type crtl-z or cmd-z (only once) to eliminate the format and be back to the standard field format
Thanks, that worked. Too bad I have to do that for every field, though. The old version just went automatically to my formatting. Thanks for your reply. I appreciate your taking the time.
you can create a button with a script with the instruction “Paste” into the field with the option “Paste without style” selected
Thanks! I don't know how to create a button but your first solution worked OK -- Ctrl Z.
You seem to know a lot -- maybe you can also tell me if it's possible to retrieve data accidentally erased from a field? If so, do you know how to do it? Thanks for your kind help.
if the record is already committed (saved), no way.
If you have accidentally erased data from a field without saving it, you can use the menu command Records > Rever record
Very cool -- but it reverts the entire record, not just one field, right?
You've been so very helpful today. Thank you again. That copy/paste thing has been a big issue for me and now you've solved it.
yes, you are right.
you can use crtl-z to undo what you entered accidentally in the field. you can do it more than once until you get the cancelled text

For mac systems, this has always been the case that text formats from the source are pasted along with the text. In WIndows XP, pastes were always pastes of unformatted text. Now, with FileMaker 12, pasting copied text in windows systems also pastes the text formatting. This comes as a suprise to windows users, but makes cross platform behavior more consistent. (And sometimes users want to copy the formats as well as the text.)
This auto-enter calculation can also be used to automatically strip out the formatting:
TextFormatRemove ( Self )
And clear the "do not replace existing value..." check box.
Thanks for your explanation of why they changed the copy/paste for Windows in version 12. I found that the ctrl z suggestion did what I need. Thanks again.
So there doesn't seem to be any global switch to make sure that field text is formatted the way I specified in my layout. This is potentially a game stopper for me I might be asking for my money back!
I have thousands of fields in over 40 or so layouts. So setting up a calcuation or trigger for each and every one of those fields or runing a thousand line script twice a day is not an option
Asking users to paste in a certain way is also not an option.
Anyone have a solution?
