Copying a serial number form iTunes cannot be pasted in FileMaker
11 and prior
Mac OS X 10.8.3
iTunes has a little known feature to copy an iOS device serial number, but the copied data cannot be pasted in FileMaker.
Connect any iOS device or an iPod to a Mac and open iTunes
After iTunes detected the iOS device shows the Summary tab
Now you can copy the serial number with the common CMD-C shortcut which puts the serial number to the pasteboard in public.utf16-plain-text, 'utxt',public.utf8-plain-text, NSStringPboardType format.
But FileMaker 11 or prior version cannot use this clipboard content, the Paste manu item is disabled. (In FileMaker 12 everthing works great.)
I'd like to paste the serial number to a text field in a FileMaker database.
Because the Paste menu item is disabled, I cannot paste it.
If I paste the clipboard content to TextEdit and than copy it back to the clipboard I can paste it to the FileMaker database's text field.
Thank you for the post.
I can confirm this behavior with FileMaker Pro 11. I can also confirm your report that this issue no longer occurs in FileMaker Pro 12.
I forwarded a full report to Testing and Development for review.
