      Product

      FileMaker Pro

      Version

      FileMaker Pro 11

      Operating system version

      Windows XP

      Description of the issue

I switch over from 8.5 to 11 today and one of my databases was corrupted...

I can still open this database on 8.5 and via Instant Web Publishing (8.5) with no problems.

      Couple major problems
I am unable to open the corrupted database Instant Web Publishing

Through sharing remotely the passwords do not work and other users are unable to log on...

This was suppose to be a smooth switch and it has caused major problems.

      A day of work lost....

      Steps to reproduce the problem

      Recovered the database

It is often the case that hidden file corruption is tolerated by one version of FileMaker or one OS but not others. Likely your file was already damaged, but 8.5 'tolerated' it.

          Did the recovered file work?

Things to keep in mind about Recover:

          1. Recover does not detect all problems
          2. Recover doesn't always fix all problems correctly
          3. Best Practice is to never put a recovered copy back into regular use or development. Instead, replace the damaged file with an undamaged back up copy if this is at all possible. You may have to save a clone of the back up copy and import all data from your recovered copy to get a working copy with the most up to date information possible.
