could not connect to a remote FMP server (host) using domain name

Question asked by user12472 on Jul 21, 2010

Summary

could not connect to a remote FMP server (host) using domain name

Product

FileMaker Go

Version

1.0.1

Operating system version

iPad - 32GB - 3.2.1 OS

Description of the issue

I tried to connect to by remote FMP server (host) using the (FQDN) domain name of the host.  FMGo did not see it.  It does see and I can connect to the local (running on my iMac) DB.

Steps to reproduce the problem

I tried to connect to by remote FMP server (host) using the (FQDN) domain name of the host.

Expected result

Connection to a remote host ( FMP server)

Actual result

no connection - FMGo doesnot "see" the server

Exact text of any error message(s) that appear

no hosts available

Workaround

I then tried the IP address of the remote host. That worked. It was then added to the list of favorite hosts as an ip address and I was able to login to my FMP DB - it was added to the list of recent files.  I then tried to use the domain name again to connect to the host. This time it worked.  This was after trying several times and talking to tech support at the hosting co.  They reported that they were not seeing a connect request using the domain name.  All is OK now after first using the IP address to get a connection/path.  Looks like this might be an issue with DNS initialization in FMPGo.
