Double Quote typing problem ( " " ), they disappear when defining any calculated expression

      Summary

Double Quote typing problem ( " " ), they disappear when defining any calculated expression

      Product

      FileMaker Pro

      Version

      12 Advanced v2

      Operating system version

      Mt. Lion

      Description of the issue

When defining an expression of any type in Filemaker 12 Adv. v2 (and on a 2009 iMac that has just been upgraded to Mt. Lion from Snow Leopard), when trying to type in a text string between double quotes (i.e., "like this") the typing of the second quote cause the first one to disappear and therefore the expression can't be saved.  When using the devoted FM button for adding a 'null' string (""), the quotes simply appear briefly then disappear.

This Mac is used by a Mac novice coming off Windows.so outside Filemaker he may have randomly set some OS level setting that is contributing toward this behavior?  Could his keyboard be sending some errant escape character?  Does FM parse calculation input as you type?

      Steps to reproduce the problem

Not reproducible on my 2012 iMac running up to date Lion.

On affected machine, type in two double quote characters and problem manifests.

      Expected result

Double quote characters not to disappear.

      Actual result

      They disappear.

Exact text of any error message(s) that appear

      N/A

      Workaround

      None
