    Drop Down List Bug

    MichaelDolley

      Summary

      Drop Down List Bug

      Product

      FileMaker Pro

      Version

      11

      Operating system version

      Mac OS X 10.5.8

      Description of the issue

When you open the database and place it on a second screen then drop down lists for fields displaying an arrow will appear on the left edge of the first monitor if the width of the field is equal only to that of the arrow.

      Steps to reproduce the problem

      - Open a database on a two monitor Mac setup, such as a Macbook Pro with second monitor.
      - Move the database window to the second screen
      - In layout mode place a field and assign it a dropdown list (any will produce the result) with the Show Arrow option enabled
      - Resize the field so that only the arrow is visible (17 pixels in my testing)
      - Enter browse mode
      - Click on the arrow

      Expected result

The drop down list should appear where the field is and allow the user to select a value

      Actual result

The drop down list appears at the leftmost edge of the first screen, outside of the database window.

      Workaround

Expand the field by two additional pixels. Tested 1 additional pixel and the problem was still present.

          Michael Dolley:

          Thank you for your post.

Our Development and Software Quality Assurance (Testing) departments are aware of this issue.  Although it commonly happens when the screen resolution of the two monitors differ, it can happen when the resolutions are the same.  This has also manifested with the drop-down appearing against the right edge of the first monitor as well as the bottom left corner of the first monitor.  This problem was introduced with Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5.x).

There is no immediate resolution at this time.

On September 21,2010 we were advised that Software Quality Assurance is aware of this issue, and 18 months later there is still no resolution.  Dual (or more) monitor setups have become increasingly common and this issue needs to be addressed.
