Thank you for your post.
You are correct, the FileMaker document that links you to the SSL Updaters: Answer ID: 7016, does not specify that it will not install on computers running Mac OS X 10.7. Thank you for bringing that to our attention. I have forwarded your post to our Documentation department.
FileMaker has tested and certified installations of FileMaker Pro 10, FileMaker Pro 10 Advanced, FileMaker Pro 11, and FileMaker Pro 11 Advanced on OS X, Lion. There are known limitations on the Lion OS for FileMaker Pro 10 and FileMaker Pro 10 Advanced, documented in Answer ID: 9710.
The installation of versions earlier than FileMaker Pro 10 are not recommended on Lion; they are likely to be unstable and, as you have discovered, cannot be updated.
FileMaker Pro 7 through FileMaker Pro 11 do share the same file format. You will be able to open your FileMaker Pro 9 files with FileMaker Pro 11. I would recommend you make sure you have good backups of your solution whenever you plan any major changes.
You can find a trial version of FileMaker Pro 11 at www.filemaker.com. Go to the Support menu and select Downloads; you'll find a link to Trial Software at the bottom of the page under "Downloadable Resources".
