FileMaker ODBC Driver for Windows is installed 'per-user'

Question asked by ranja on Jun 17, 2015

Summary

FileMaker ODBC Driver for Windows is installed 'per-user'

Product

FileMaker Server

Version

14

Operating system version

Windows

Description of the issue

In Windows, softwares are installed in either per-user or per-machine context.
If you double-click the 'FMODBC_Installer_Win64.msi' file, the product is installed per-user.
Softwares like drivers, which affect all users on the machine, must be installed per-machine.
Because the driver is installed per-user, another user (administrator) cannot see the product in the Programs and Features control panel applet.  Another user can install the driver again on the same machine.  If the second user uninstall the driver, the driver file is removed, but the product still appears in the Programs and Features control panel applet of the first user.

Expected result

The driver must be installed per-machine.

Workaround

Don't double-click the FMODBC_Installer_Win64.msi or FMODBC_Installer_Win32.msi file to begin installation.
Instead, open the command prompt and enter as follows:

msiexec -i {path to the .msi file} ALLUSERS=1
