      Summary

FileMaker Pro 7 -- normally 100% reliable -- now CRASHES

      Product

      FileMaker Pro

      Version

      7

      Operating system version

      Windows XP Professional 2002 SP3

      Description of the issue

Suddenly the program is crashing as I type new data. I thought it might need more cache memory (it was using 7MB of 8MB), so I upped it to 12MB and rebooted the laptop. But the crashes continue. Have sent error reports to Microsoft. What could be causing this? The program has always been so reliable, so stable.

Do the crashes only occure when you are using a specific file or do you get these crashes even if the only file you have open is a brand new file you have just created and are testing?

If it's just one file, that file may be damaged. You can recover the file and test to see if the recovered file crashes or not.

Best practice is to not use the recovered file. If you conclude that your file is damaged, it's better to replace that file with an undamaged back up copy. (You may have to save a clone of your backup and import the data from your recovered copy in order to get an undamaged copy with up to date data.)
