FileMaker Pro blocking OS X restart (if RESUME is activated)

FileMaker Pro blocking OS X restart (if RESUME is activated)

      FileMaker Pro

      13, 12, 11, maybe earlier versions

      Operating system version

      OS X 10.7 - 10.10

      Description of the issue

If FileMaker ist started by the OS automatically (after restart, together with any other apps)
the ugly startup dialog appears ("Open New or Existing File")

If you now want to restart again, FMP stopping the restart process because of that open dialog box (that nobody needs).

      Steps to reproduce the problem

      activate "RESUME" in OS X.
      Open FileMaker.
      Restart computer.
Wait until any apps are relaunched.
      try to restart computer.

      Expected result

computer restart with every app and document closing.

no modal dialog should appear while launching FMP

      Actual result

restart stops because FMP sometimes have "Open New or Existing File"-dialog open.

close "Open New or Existing File"-Dialog-Window and try to restart again.

            Hi and/but sorry:

this is not a feature request but a bug report!

this modal dialog after starting FMP is no good behavior. Under circumstances this is disturbing the workflow of the system since "RESUME" is a system wide standard.

No other application that I know does such a thing similar to FMP.

Modal dialogs should only appear in response to user interaction.

The behavior of FMP after launching is a very old problem and had changed during the last decade. Unfortunately also the current method is not optimal and should be optimized in some way IMHO (I have no solution for that problem at all).

Maybe it is better using a floating window. Also (and this is a feature request) I like to be able to disable that window on startup in the FMP preferences window.

FileMaker Go has a similar problem…

            thanks, Thomas
