          Thanks for posting!

I think we might need a little more detail to assist with this one. This appears to be FileMaker Server 9, is that correct? If so, what version is this? You can get this information by opening the terminal located in /Applications/Utilities and entering the following command.

          fmsadmin -v

Also, what version of OS X are you using? To get this information, click on the Apple icon in the upper right hand coner and select About this Mac. It should be something along the lines of 10.x.x.

At what point in launching the admin console do you get this message? Do you receive any other messages?

Any other information you believe may be relevant would be greatly appreciated.

            OS X 10.6.7

File Maker Server 9 but in the office we have File Maker 11

              Peter W:

FileMaker Server 9 is not compatible with OS X 10.6 and later. To use FileMaker Server on this operating system, it's recommended that you upgrade to FileMaker Server 11. Alternatively, you can still use FileMaker Server 9 on OS X 10.5. This is documented in knowledge base answer #7355:

FileMaker Server Admin on a Mac with OS 10.5.8. Have tried from the database server machine itself, and from another Mac. Both with 10.5.8. FileMaker Server 9 is running. We are also having what seems like the same problem on a separate server that's running OS 10.6.7 and FileMaker Server 11

                  Peter W:

Would it be possible to verify what the problematic symptoms you are seeing i.e. admin console isn't launching, console is crashing, etc?   Also, it may be beneficial to provide a little background of on the system i.e. how long FileMaker Server 9 and 11 were up and running prior to this issue and what changes/updates you can think of were made around this time.  This should help us move forward with this issue.

                  Thanks,

                        Peter W.:

This issue is caused by an incompatibilty between Java 6 update 24 and FileMaker Server. We've released an update for FileMaker Server 11 that resolves this issue:

                        http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9283

To verify that you're running into this same issue on FileMaker Server 9, can you post the errors you received? They should be in a similar format to what you just gave us for FileMaker Server 11.

                            Cody Barge:

Thanks! Can you head to the start page (http://localhost:16000) and check the version of FileMaker Server 9? It should be 9.0.3.326. If it's v3 but not .326, you'll want to install the .326 update. This update is available here:

After applying the update to 9.0.3.326 and restarting (just in case), the same exact error occurs upon opening FM Server 9. Are there any other possible reasons for this error besides the Java 6 Update 24 incompatibility? Suggestions?

                              Thanks,

                              Cody

                                Cody Barge:

Let's try clearing the Java cache. Open the Java Preferences application from /Applications/Utilities and choose the Network tab. Then, choose Delete Files and click OK. Once that's done, head to http://localhost:16000 and attempt to launch the admin console again.

If it still fails, disable all your network adapters in System Preferences -> Network, reboot and try again.
