FileMaker Server Web Direct does not work on Windows 7 Professional SP1

    PaulmichaelContreras

      Summary

FileMaker Server Web Direct does not work on Windows 7 Professional SP1

      Product

      FileMaker Server

      Version

      13.0v4

      Operating system version

      Windows 7 Professional SP1

      Description of the issue

When FileMaker Server 13 is installed on Windows 7 Professional SP1, while deployment is successful, Web Direct does not answer web browser requests. With no websites configured in IIS other than the FMWebSite, a navigation to http(s)://{server IP/hostname}/fmi/webd results in an IIS error:
"HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found. The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable." This is the result even when run on the server itself, at http://localhost/fmi/webd

      Steps to reproduce the problem

      1. Install IIS through Control Panel->Programs and Features->Turn Windows features on or off.
      2. Install FileMaker Server. It will notify you about disabling the default Site.
      3. Deploy FileMaker Server. This usually works without manually creating the fmi-test/test.xml file, but occasionally does not.
      4. Once deployment succeeds and the Web Server and Web Publishing Engine report that they are turned on and running properly (including Web Direct status set to Enabled), attempt to navigate to http://localhost/fmi/webd on the server itself.

      Expected result

I would expect to see the FileMaker Server Web Direct listing of databases, including the same database that comes with the software. WebDirect has been confirmed as being enabled on applicable datbases, and is reflected in the Admin Console.

      Actual result

I receive an IIS error page.

Exact text of any error message(s) that appear

      Server Error in Application "FMWEBSITE"
HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found. The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
      Module: IIS Web Core
      Notification: MapRequestHandler
      Handler: StaticFile
      Error Code: 0x80070002
      Requested URL: http://localhost/fmi/webd
      Physical Path: C:\Program Files\FileMaker Server\HTTPServer\conf\fmi\webd
      Logon Method: Anonymous
      Logon User: Anonymous

      Configuration information

The server is well-spec'd, with an AMD Athlon II X3 445 processor running at 3.10 GHz, 8 GB of RAM and hundreds of available GB of hard drive space. Java is up to date.

      Workaround

      None so far.

I have discovered that accessing http://localhost:16020/fmi/webd does indeed load Web Direct. Attempting to access that link through another computer on the same subnet as the server does not work. In fact, loading the address with the server's IP address swapped in on the server itself does not work: http://192.168.0.127:16020/fmi/webd does not work on the server (and that is its IP address), only http://localhost:16020/fmi/webd loaded on the server itself works.

            Paulmichael Contreras:

            Thank you for your post.

First, IIS does not need to be preconfigured.  FileMaker Server 13 configures the Web Server during installation, and it will prompt you to disable any existing web sites on port 80 and 443.

To make sure you can see the Database server remotely, from a supported browser enter:

            https://<IP Address of server>

If set up properly, you will see "FileMaker Database Server Website".

Assuming this works, see if you can log into the Admin Console remotely at:

            https://<IPAddress of server>:16000

If this fails, then try accessing Admin Console from the server, and verify the Database Server and Web Server are both up and running.

If Admin Console was accessible remotely, then try logging into Web Direct at:

            https://<IPAddress of server>/fmi/webd

Continue to keep me updated with any progress.

              TSGAL,

I experienced this and followed your instructions here. I can get to the admin console from a remote computer on the same net. but cannot get to webdirect by using https://<IPAddress>/fmi/webd

                Thank you for your post.

In Admin Console, on the Status page, is the Web Server and Web Publishing engines both running?  Under Web Publishing, does it display "FileMaker WebDirect is enabled"?

From the server, are you able to launch a browser and access WebDirect?

                  TSGAL,

I spent about 8 hours between last night and today on this problem with no solution.   Here is what I have

Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise, 8 GB RAM, FM 13V4.   With Version 4 in the admin console all the services were running (check marked in green):  Filemaker Server 13, Web Server, Web Publishing Engine and ODBC/JDBC.  This means also that on the Status of the admin console, PHP, XML, and Filemaker WebDirect were all enabled.

I followed the installation instructions for FM 13V5 and  was able to install without a problem.   I re-started the Filemaker Server Service in Windows and was able to connect to the admin console within the windows 2008 server and remotely within the same LAN.  However the Filemaker 13V5 console did not have the Web Server component dotted as green (which means it was not enabled).  Also the PHP, XML, and Filemaker Webdirect were not enabled on the status of the admin console but if you look under web publishing each of them were already checked as enabled.

I tried to check off WebDirect and toggled it back to enable but that did not work.  I did the same for PHP and XML.    The Web Server was not on.  I checked the Windows Internet Information Services (IIS) manager to check whether the web server was not on but according to this it was started already and not stopped.

I also did a re-deployment but that did not work.

After I exhausted all the possibilities I decided to uninstalled FM 13 and reinstall from FM 13 V1 to V4.   At each installation, i checked the admin console and everything worked fine.   When I get to FM 13 V5 updater and install it then the problem above occurs.

I am not sure why the FM 13 V5 updater thinks that the web server is not active.  I hope this helps. Let me know if you need more information.

                    TSGAL,

WebDirect was not available via the server or remotely.

                      Sean Mota:

                      Thanks for the additional information.

After discussing this with another Support Technician and trying this ourselves (unable to replicate), the first suggestion is to use the full FileMaker Server 13.0v5 installer to uninstall and reinstall (after backing up schedules and groups).  You can download a full version from the original FileMaker Store email.

If this still fails, then perform the following steps:

                      1. Backup schedules and groups

                      2. Uninstall FileMaker Server 13.0v5.

                      3. Uninstall all of the following from Add/Remove:

                      IIS URL Rewrite Module
                      Microsoft Application Request Routing
                      Microsoft External Cache for IIS
Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable Package (x64)1 Microsoft Web Farm Framework
                      Bonjour
                      All versions of Java

                      4. Remove the IIS role from the Server Manger.

                      5. Delete the inetpub folder located on the C:/ drive.

                      6. Rename or move the FileMaker Server folder.

&. Reinstall using the full FileMaker Server 13.0v5 from their store email.

Continue to keep me updated with any progress.
