Thank you for the post.
When a file is generated by Google Docs and saved in the .xlsx format, I am able to replicate this behavior on Mac OS X 10.7.4 and Windows 7 on my work machine. I forwarded your report to Development and Testing for review.
I have the same issue with XLSX file created by Apache POI api
In cases where this has happened to our databases, the filename of the source file was too long or contained characters that caused problems.
Changing the source file to have a shorter file name and keeping the .xlsx extension did the trick every time.
We are experiencing this same problem, but newer systems (OS 10.9, FM13). Debra's suggestion didn't work for us; I tried a filename of "googleexport.xlsx" and it still gave the error mentioned. This file was generated by picking File->Download as->Xlsx from Google
's 'Sheets' document type. The document itself only had 20 or so cells filled in with some basic text; I typed it in as a test from a brand new document.
Thank you for your post.
The issue is that Google Docs exports a .xlsx file with Unix line breaks (line feed), while Microsoft Excel uses Windows line breaks (carriage return and line feed). At this time, FileMaker Pro is only accepting Microsoft Excel .xlsx documents.
One workaround is to export from Google Docs, open the resulting file in Microsoft Excel, and then save it again. FileMaker Pro will then import the file.
Thanks for the reply, and the clarifying details of what the real issue is. I appreciate that.
Just to say i was running into it today and found this helpful thread.
By the way, it has not been changed on FileMaker 14.0.1.
I just posted a feature request for that using the appropriate link
Support of Google Doc XLSX files
Dear FileMaker, it seem that a Google Doc generated xlsx files are not supported by FileMaker Pro (Open, Import), since Google Docs exports a .xlsx file with Unix line breaks (line feed), while Microsoft Excel uses Windows line breaks (carriage return and line feed). that displays an error message suggestion convert the file with Excel first. Could you please consider supporting also these line breaks on future realease ?
And you ?
I'm glad you were able to find this thread and that it answered your question. I haven't revisited this problem in a while, and not in 14 since it came out. I will have to go test it again...nope, still fails in 14.
This issue has been addressed in FileMaker Pro 15.
