Summary

FM Pro 12 refuses to import .xlsx spreadsheets

Product

FileMaker Pro

Version

12.0v2

Operating system version

Mac 10.6.8 and Mac 10.7.4

Description of the issue

FM refuses to accept .xlsx files downloaded from Google Docs/Google Drive. For full explanation, please see this thread from the FM forums:

http://forums.filemaker.com/posts/200c4abadc?page=1

According to FM documentation, it should be able to import this format.

Steps to reproduce the problem

1. File > Import > From file > select an .xlsx file

This results in an error message:
"The selected Excel workbook has an unsupported file format. Please convert the workbook to the Excel 2007, or Excel 2008 file format and try again."

I have tried this with several FM databases, using three different computers (two different Mac OS versions), and numerous downloaded .xlsx files. We use Google .xlsx downloads weekly; importing to FM has only recently become a problem.

Expected result

The .xlsx file should import into FM

Actual result

Error:
"The selected Excel workbook has an unsupported file format. Please convert the workbook to the Excel 2007, or Excel 2008 file format and try again."

Exact text of any error message(s) that appear
