      Summary

FMPA 11 crashing while working in scripts

      Description of the issue

We found Filemaker crashing from time to time while working inside a script. It happens on multiple computers (all Macbooks) in Filemaker Pro Advanced 11. It doesn't happen in FMPA 10.  Here's the crashlog: Process:         FileMaker Pro [43307]Path:            /Applications/FileMaker Pro 11 Advanced/FileMaker Pro Advanced.app/Contents/MacOS/FileMaker a) Did you use the file with FM10, then FM11, then FM10 again, then ... etc. ?

          b) In this case, did you worked in both cases on scripts?

          c) In this case, did you worked on a script with an "import" or an "export" step?

          (c'était la question qui tue :-)  )

If yes, erase this script and do it again (the script, not the FM-switching).

            Hi,

Yes, we use both 10 and 11 to work in the same scripts .... is that a problem ?

A few scripts have import and/or export script steps, but those that crash do not have these scriptsteps.

Deleting the scripts and starting over is a huge work ... .we have over 300 scripts and most of them are very long ...

Mh. I had busted scripts, that lost their needed tables.

I think, this is bad to mix the versions when you go on the scripts, but other peole don't. Well, I wouldn't do it.

Worst case is, if you worked on a script with an ETS-Version :-(

              Yes, I see your problem.

Well, try to find out, which script step gives problem.

                Liviooo:

                Thank you for your posts.

The crash log starts with Java errors and virtual machine.  Is it possible you can move the database and FileMaker Pro to a local machine and try again?

Since you have FileMaker Pro 11 Advanced, turn on the Script Debugger and step through the script until you see the script step that causes the crash.

Any other information you can provide may be helpful in narrowing down the possible cause(s).

                        TSGal,

I am having the same problems. Essentially I can only work in FMPA 11 (on a Mac) for a short while (10-20 minutes) until it just crashes, usually when editing scripts. Similar crash threads, noting Java. I am working on a very large solution that is being shared (not on Server). FMPA is not editing locally. However, I don't think this is a networking issue because the crashes are always associated with clicking or working with FMPA GUI objects, not during any kind of network communicaiton or during any script runs or clicking layout objects. It is usually when working in script editor, but occasionally when clicking regular window toolbar items.

                        My particulars:

Solution created in FMPro 9, and never used under FMP 10. Recently started using FMP 11. Solution runs fine, but crashes are in FMPA when working on solution remotely across LAN. After crash, I can not connect to sharing host until after a wait time (~ 1-2 minutes). Sometimes, if I can connect it tells me my license of FMPA is already being used. (I think I have to wait for the host to forget about my lost/crashed connection before I can re-connect again.)

Mac 10.5.8, with latest updates, as of today.

                        Several third-party FMP plugins installed.

No database corruption, as of yet, just crashed FMPA. Haven't tried working on a local copy yet, as this would be very inconvenient for this solution.

Am willing to send any of my many crash reports to further help resolve issue, as it is seriously impeding my ability to develop.

                        Thanks,

I thought I just had a random problem yesterday while working over the WAN editing a script. Looks like I was able to reproduce what Liviooo had issues with.

Client: FMPA 11 Mac (OS 10.6.3, Mac Pro 2009)

Server: FMS 11 Windows (2003 Server fully patched)

                              Peabody,

How did you reproduce it? My crashes are usually in the script editor, but are seemingly random.
