An update to my post: if you double-click on Java Web Start, it opens a window that is labeled Java Cache Viewer. That is really bizarre. In any case, Admin console still won't run - it just tries to connect unsuccessfully and there is no error message. Is there anybody out there reading the forum who might have some guidance? Filemaker's own instructions appear to be useless, which is a concern. Also a concern is that nobody from Filemaker has offered any support here. Thanks.

Hi - I had posted elsewhere about this issue as well and the answer there (by you!) for our problem was "When FileMaker Server was released, version 6 update 7 was the most recent version, and it shipped with FileMaker. Future updates of Java is incompatible with FileMaker. If you are required to have the latest version of Java installed, then your only option is to upgrade to FileMaker 10."
Thanks again for your help.
