    fabriceN

      Summary

Get ( ModifiedFields ) does not work with drag and drop

      Product

      FileMaker Pro

      Version

      FMP1 13v3

      Operating system version

      Mac OS X 10.9.3

      Description of the issue

Get ( ModifiedFields ) does not react to drag and drop from external application.

      Steps to reproduce the problem

      - observe Get ( ModifiedFields ) in the DataViewer
      - place a field object on a layout (typically a container field, but any field will do)
      - Drag something from an external application (Finder, TextEdit...)
      - see how empty the result remains.

      Expected result

same result as if you had typed/inserted/pasted.

      Actual result

      nada

               Thank you for your post.

FileMaker Pro (for many versions) performs an auto-commit when an item is dragged and dropped into a Container field (or any field) from another application.  This is as designed.

I recommend entering this into our Feature Requests web form at:

          http://www.filemaker.com/company/contact/feature_request.html

The entries in this web form populate a database file that is hosted and monitored by our Product Management and Development departments.  All entries are discussed and considered for possible implementation in a future release.  Although I could copy your post and paste it into the web form, there are a couple of contact questions asked that only you can answer.

                 Thank you for the post.

I am unable to replicate. To attempt to replicate, I performed the following steps:

                 1. File > New Database

                 2. Added two fields: FIELD (text) & CONTAINER (container)

            3. Added {{ModifiedFields}} symbol to the layout.

                 3. Placed a script trigger on both fields for OnObjectModify

                 Script text:

                 Open Record/Request

Refresh Window [Flush cached joined results]

                 4. New Record

                 5. Typed in the text field, tabbed to container, dragged a file into the container.

The Data Viewer result for Get ( ModifiedFields ) shows "FIELD CONTAINER." (See screenshot below).

Please let me know if I am missing a step to replicate.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I was indeed coming back here to tell that the problem was not related to Get ( ModifiedFields ) but with the fact that Drag'n'Drop does not open the record, which your script does.

So I understand as TSGal said that drag'n'drop auto-commits, but then it would be good that the onCommit trigger would fire (which it doesn't at the moment).
