How to use AppleScript "whose" filter to select a range of records

Question asked by KarlBrowning on Jul 27, 2012

Summary

How to use AppleScript "whose" filter to select a range of records

Product

FileMaker Pro

Version

11

Operating system version

os X 10.7

Description of the issue

I've been unable to filter a for a group of records from AppleScript using the "Whose" parameter.

Here is the code:

                    tell (every record whose ¬
                         (cell "VA_Artist" ≥ startArtistRange) and ¬
                         (cell "VA_Artist" ≤ endArtistRange))
                         set volumeTitle_List to cell "VA_Title"
                         set volumeArtist_List to cell "VA_Artist"
                         set volumeID_List to cell "VA_Index"
set volumeTrkCnt_List to cell "VA_Track Count"
                    end tell

I am trying to be able to select records whose artist are within a range.  When startArtistRange = aa, and endArtistRange is equal to ab i do get a limited set of data but there is no rhyme or reason for what it is.

I know I can solve this problem with "Find" but I would sure like to know how to make this work.
Thanks
Karl
