    installers for Filemaker 11

      installers for Filemaker 11 & updaters fail silently when Spotlight is curbed from /Applications

      FileMaker Pro

      Operating system version

      Mac OS X 10.6.4 (10F569)

      Description of the issue

      The script 'postflight' used by Filemaker installers and updaters fails silently on systems that don't utilize Spotlight or curb it from indexing the target /Applications directory.  The script depends on commands to 'mdfind' instead of something generally slower but more reliable like:
      find /Applications -type d -name 'MacOS' -exec find {} -type f -maxdepth 1 -name 'File[Mm]aker*' \;
      and then using that result to help check the version:
      cat '/Applications/FileMaker Pro 11 Advanced/FileMaker Pro Advanced.app/Contents/Info.plist' | grep 'File[Mm]aker .*version'

      Steps to reproduce the problem

      Disable Spotlight on your startup disk or for your /Applications directory;
      Run the FileMaker installer

      Expected result

      New or updated application files

      Actual result

      No new nor updated application files

      Exact text of any error message(s) that appear

      Configuration information

      mdutil -s /
           Indexing and searching disabled.

      copy installer from read-only disk image to read-write disk;
      edit postflight script to prevent destruction of temporary directory & its files
