How are you attempting to share the database between users? Do you open it with FileMaker on the computer where the file is located and then the other users use Open Remote to access the file?
Have you used Sharing in the File menu to enable sharing for this file?
ACtually...we have the actual Asset Library stored on the Shared Server. We are using separate computers with unique licenses to attempt to open up the same doc at the same time. To no avail.
We had enabled the sharing, however, it does not appear to be working. And we have enabled the FileMaker Network sharing, and i have specified the proper persons allowed for full access...and it still will NOT allow us to be in the system one at a time.
The method you are using is not recommended by FileMaker inc. and can corrupt your file.
You should use FileMaker Pro to open the file and FileMaker should be installed on the same machine as where you have stored the file and it should be the first to open the file.
Then all other users should Launch FileMaker and use Open Remote to find and access the file.
Try this first with a new database file with sharing enabled for it just in case your file is already damaged. Once that works, then try the original file to see if it can be accessed.
Steps to share a database file:
- With the file open, select Sharing | FileMaker Network.
- Maker sure network sharing is on, then highlight the file in the list of open files and click All Users.
- Make sure that Don't Display in Open Remote File Dialog is NOT selected or you won't be able to see the file in order to open it in this dialog.
Thank you so much for your words. We have done this. I have also spoken with my rep from File Maker Pro and they have advised me as to the best way to do this...
Thank you. Thank you!
