    Oracle ESS case insensitive search

    SBerger

      Summary

      Oracle ESS case insensitive search

      Product

      FileMaker Pro

      Version

      11v04

      Operating system version

      Mac OS X 10.5.8

      Description of the issue

      I'm trying to do case insensitive search in FileMaker in "Name" field, that belongs to Oracle 10g  "PEOPLE" table. The only way to get results back is, if in Find mode I type  the name exactly as it was entered. Of course, I want to be able to do case insensitive search, but it doesn't work.

      As per Oracle documentation, I altered two parameters in Oracle spfile :

                           nls_sort = BINARY_CI
                           nls_comp=LINGUISTIC

      That should've allowed case insensitive search in database.
      Am I missing something obvious?

      Steps to reproduce the problem

      - using actualtechnologies ODBC driver, connect to Oracle 10g.
        - define TO in FileMaker, that points to a table in Oracle.
        - create layout in FileMaker based on ESS TO.
        - enter Find mode and do search for a name.

      Expected result

      When I search for "john",  I expect to get "john" and "John" and "JOHN" as a result.

      Actual result

      Instead, I'm getting "john" only.

      Configuration information

      Mac OS X 10.5.8
      FileMaker pro Advanced 11.v04
      Oracle 10g Express

          Slobodan:

          Thank you for your post.

          This is as designed.  We explicitly wanted Finds to be case-sensitive so that the ODBC would match more of the other database systems.  Therefore, I encourage you to enter this as a suggestion into our Feature Requests web form at:

          http://www.filemaker.com/company/contact/feature_request.html

          The entries into this web form are monitored and read by Development and Product Management where they are then discussed and considered for future releases.  Although I could copy your post and paste it into the web form, there are a few questions asked that only you can answer.
