Find that layout in your database and enter layout mode.
Click on each part label in turn and select either white or "no color" as the color for that layout part.
Test and see if you can now correctly print from that layout.
I checked out the coupon layout as suggested. The color value for each part of the layout were set to none.
So, the problem persists. On further inspection it is not just the background that is messed up. Other colors are also incorrect. Yellow is black, blue is red. The images almost look like color negatives.
Thanks for trying.
In talking to our Art Department, they say it looks like version 12.0v3 has dropped support for CYMK color images and he thinks that if we rebuild the layout using RGB color images that the issue with color reversal will go away.
Can anyone at Filemaker confirm this analysis?
Thank you for the post.
Do the colors that change in v3 do so in the database file or only when printed? Can you replicate the same behavior in a stripped down sample file built in FileMaker Pro 12?TSFalconFileMaker, Inc.
If I go to File/Manage/Layouts and open the layout the image looks fine. If I try to print directly from the layout , it prints in greyscale regardless of what my printer settings are. When I print normally from the main layout I get the color reversal issue.
I have not tried building a sample file. In the process of trying to figure out the color problem I noticed the coupon we are printing is set to expire in 3 weeks so we need to create a new coupon layout anyway. Our art dept. said they will create the new image using RGB color instead of CYMK color. We will see what happens when we plug it in.
I am curious to know what changed between v.1 and v.3 to create this issue.
At this point I would say that 12.0v3 has deffinitely dropped support for CYMK color images. I went into layout mode, cut the image and pasted it into Paint. I then saved the image in Paint as a Jpeg. Paint only renders RGB color images. I then imported the new Jpeg image into the layout, saved the layout and now it prints correctly in Filemaker.
Thank you for the additional information.
If possible, could you provide a sample file with two layouts one with the CMYK image and one with the RGB image? Check your inbox at the top of this page for instructions on how to submit the file.
Do you want copies of the image files used in the layouts? I have been unable to figure out how to export the layouts to a file.
If that is possible can you instruct me in how to do it?
Thank you for the reply.
Either copies of the actual images or the database file stripped of everything but the layouts containing the images will be sufficient for our testing purposes. Layouts cannot be exported; however, an entire layout can be copied and pasted onto a layout in new database file.TSFalconFileMaker, Inc.
This bug and the replies that it has gotten from the company are absolutely shocking, if this was something that could not be found out quickly then there are some shaky and shady development practices going on at FileMaker.
Based on the information Mr. Johnson provided, the FileMaker employees should have been able to get directly to a programmer who would reference the code that would be affected by that. This could be a simple "oops we left out the code block" or something more detailed, but how is it that the FileMaker people are not able to get to the exact answer on this and instead have essentially been given free support desk serivces for their software from the customer?
I've been a FileMaker user and developer since version 2.1 came out for Windows, and if you know when 2.1 came out for Windows, that was a VERY long time ago. Mind you, back then in the mid 1990's, I'd get FileMaker tech support giving me answers where I'd have to reply, "Well, I called you and you're supposed to be the expert, and while I know I don't know the answer, I know what you're telling me is wrong." I haven't actively developed FM software for about 5-7 years, but didn't think to go anywhere else when I needed to do a project --- the bugs here and a bunch of other random bugs related to color are are just shocking. I'm going to stop there, but Mr. Johnson should consider trying to address the company. This software is far too sophisticated for the people helping here to be so seemingly powerless to acquire information. This is an Apple company, but this website and the quality of the support makes me think it's all outsourced to foreign countries.
Any solution for this problem? I have the same problem only on the windows xp machines. Windows 7 and Mac are fine
