Version of Filemaker?
Such details help Filemaker and forum members better understand the possible bug and its scope.
I am running Mac OS X 10.6.2. The behavior occurs in Filemaker 8.5, 9.0 and 10.0v3. It occurs for right, decimal and center align tabs. Left align tabs will overflow trailing tabs, but these will not overflow preceding tabs. It occurs when the merge field is either text or number formatted. (Spreadsheet programs will overflow text to the left or right depending on alignment but will not overflow numbers.)
I'm using Filemaker 10v3 Advanced on Windows XP and I can confirm this behavior:
I typed the following layout text into a layout:
Setting the last two tab stops very close to each other (2, and 2.1 inches) resulted in "test" in the second line aligning, right justified with "test" in the first line instead of right aligning right justified to the 2.1 inch tab stop as expected.
I am also able to replicate this issue. If you decide later to enter information into the previous empty tab stop, would you then expect the following tab stop to shift?
Don't get me wrong. I have submitted this entire thread to Development and Software Quality Assurance (Testing) department for review and confirmation. I just want to be prepared when I get asked that question.
It should behave the same as left align tabs. I am using it to align and shift columns on financial statements and do not have the problem of it overflowing.
I am still having this problem with 12.
Testing and Development has said this is consistent with how Pages and Word perform. The example by PhilModJunk the second tab stop (right after "trw" is occupying the space between 1 inch and 2 inches, and the word "test" cannot encroach on that space.
