Save Layout Changes Automatically (do not ask)- doesn't work
Hello - Have selected checkbox on Prefs/Layout tab for this. FM asks continuously when going from layout to layout, if I want to save changes.HELP.
It works for me with FMP 10 adv on Windows XP, Sp3.
Check out this link: How to report product issues to FileMaker and provide a little more detail so that the tech folks have a better chance of helping you.
Thank you for your post.
Can you tell me more about your system? That is, which version of FileMaker Pro are you using? What operating system (and version) are you running? I would like to try and set up my machine similar to yours.
With my Macintosh running OS X 10.5.6 and FileMaker Pro 10, I cannot duplicate the problem. That is, if I have the setting in Preferences turned on, I am never prompted to save changes.
Actually, my apologies as I realized I should have provided more info.
I host dBase using FM9/Mac OS10.5.6 on G5, and access via web with FM10/10.5.6 on Mac Pro. Had to do this to avoid license conflicts (even though I'm the only user via this method-this workaround was suggested to me by FM tech support).
When I'm on the host machine, it doesn't happen.
I have another FM DBase that I run only on my laptop with FM10 and Mac 10.5.6 with no problem.
So you might be on to something. I'd be very appreciative as I'm constructing layouts now and you can imagine how many times this dialog box appears.
Thanks for the additional information.
Thinking it might be a problem with FileMaker Pro 9 hosting and FileMaker Pro 10 client, I tried to find a similar setup.
Another member of our support team has a MacBook running Mac OS X 10.5.6, so that person launched a database file with FileMaker Pro 9 and turned on Network Sharing. I then launched FileMaker Pro 10 on my iMac running OS X 10.5.6, opened the file remotely and was able to change the layout without prompting me for a save when I switched to another layout.
Is it just happening with this one file hosted? That is, if the G5 creates a new database file, do you still get the message to save after modifying a layout?
Hello - I'm having the same problem - I have selected the "save layout changes automatically" option under Preferences, Layout, but every time I switch from layout view to table view I get a message asking whether I want to save changes - whether or not I have made any changes to the layout! This problem started when we switched versions - going to FileMaker Server v10 with v10 client versions installed on individual computers from FileMaker Pro v9 on my computer only. Help!
Is this occurring with all files or just one file? Can you provide a bit more information regarding your computing environment? That is, on what OS is FileMaker Server 10 installed? What OS are the clients running? What OS are you running on your computer?
I recently moved a database from my computer to our Filemaker server and now I am constantly nagged to save after every little thing I do when accessing the file remotely. I do not have Filemaker Pro (only the Filemaker Server Admin software) installed on the server to test if it hounds me to save each change when opening the file directly on the server. This is truly unbearable. I have the boxed checked under Preferences > Layout.
I am running Filemaker Pro 10 on a Windows 7 machine. The Filemaker server is running Windows 2003. We are running Filemaker Server 8.02 on the server.
