Thank you for the post.
Were all tests performed with FileMaker Pro 11.0v3 on Windows Vista Professional?
When testing, what was the default PDF writer/reader for the operating system? Have you tried more than one PDF writer/reader?
On the other thread you stated:
"Of the the three PCs listed all three were on different data files. They were derived from an original source, but that was some months ago."
Could you clarify what you mean by "derived from an original source" and when you ran recovery were any errors reported?
Were these files clones of the same original file? What happens if you build a simple test file from scratch without copying anything from another file?
Some tests were using Filemaker Pro 10 on Windows XP SP3 - all show the same problem
Adobe Reader V10 or V11 have both been used, but the hang up occurs during creation of the file, not when reading it.
A simple test file from scratch doesn't demonstrate the problem, which as I say only occurs when creating large PDF files, so a few test records won't do the job.
This is on a system about to go live. I have spoken to the user who has confirmed the following sequence of actions:
1: I supplied a new "clone" data file.
2: He ran the import script which takes data from an old system and imports into the clone datafile from .txt files.
3: If he runs the report in question straight after the import it hangs.
Is there any progress on this please?
Please can I have some help on this - which was first posted about in September, it is now NOvember.
The problem is with the PDF side of things, exactly the same code, and same data, works perfectly if SaveAsPDF is changed to SaveAsExcel. Total run time of a few seconds.
Of course i cannot answer instead of TS-Folks and i haven't the solution for this issue, but can i suggest you to test it with FileMaker 12 (maybe with an evaluation version) ?
Thus, that may help to find the culprit, maybe also help users in the same case, and may provide you a solution, even it will not be charge-free.
In addition, a year and half after the v12 release, it is hard to imagine a new 11.0vx update...
Let us know.
I'll take a look at your file. Check your Inbox at the top of this page for instructions where to send the database file.
I received your files. Thank you.
I was able to reproduce the problem with FileMaker Pro 11 under Windows XP. The PDF never seems to be created. I tried this with FileMaker Pro 11 under Mac OS X (10.8 and 10.9), and it works correctly.
I then updated to FileMaker Pro 12, and it works correctly under Windows XP and Windows 7, as well as under Mac OS X 10.8 and 10.9.
"Fred" is correct that there will not be any further updates to FileMaker Pro 11.
An entry (closed) in the Known Bugs List has been linked to this report. If you have any suggestions/corrections/questions about that entry, please post them here or in a new thread. Please do not post them to the bugs list thread.
PS. since this cannot be reproduced in FM 12, I've logged it as closed, but figure others may encounter this issue given the very large number of FMP 11 users that may encounter this issue.
