I might add that what I find makes this really more a bug than a poorly designed and unannounced new feature is the fact that a script find on "*" in a strict number field still works.
Thank you for the post.
I am able to replicate this behavior if the validation setting for "Allow user to override during data entry" is unchecked; however, if the option is checked, I get a dialog allowing me to proceed. This was the same behavior in FileMaker Pro 12 (Advanced) and FileMaker Pro 11 (Advanced).
One easy workaround would be to create a calculation field equal to the numeric only number field to use for finds.
Additionally, I forwarded a report to Testing and Development for further review.
This has been previously reported. Sad to see that it is still an issue with the latest versions:
For More Information see: Validation active in find mode
This is one of many acknowledged bugs that can be found in the Known Bug List thread here in the Report an Issue section of the forum.
It can also be downloaded as a database file from: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jt09b82i0xijbu3/FMP%20Bugs.zip
Seeing the link provided by Phil, i cannot see any formal acknowledgement by FMI.
However, since it is usual with FileMaker to get an empty numeric field (the default), the * search symbol should be allowed in all cases within the Search Mode.
Thank you for the replies and link to the previous report.
I added all of your comments to the previous report made to Testing and Development and the issue has been reopened for discussion.
