      Summary

Send Mail including Recipient Name does not work with smtp.gmail.com

      Description of the issue

FileMaker Product(s) involved:FileMaker Pro Advanced 10.0v3Operating System(s) involved:Mac 10.6.2Detailed description of the issue:Regardless of the format of Send Mail's "To:" field described in this tech support article (Answer ID 2862),  there does not seem to be a way to include the recipient's name in the "To:" field of a message sent via smtp.gmail.com. Exact steps to reproduce the issue:1.  Set up a gmail account. Obtain log-in credentials for smtp.gmail.com (SSL, Plain Password authentication, port 465, etc.) 2.  Create a script with only a Send Mail script step in it. Configure to use the SMTP Server from Step 1. 3.  Run the script to send a test email to a known-good address: i.e. To: "good@address.com". This one works. 4.  Now, modify the "To:" field to add a recipient's name to the "To:" address, i.e. To: "Good Address ". This one fails. Oddly, this format works for other SMTP servers, but apparently not for smtp.gmail.com. Various permutations of the format do not seem to work either. Note: The format of the "To:" field is described in Section 3.4 of RFC 5332.  Expected Result:The Send Mail script step should be compatible with all SMTP-compatible servers. Actual Result:Send Mail script step apparently is not fully compatible with smtp.gmail.com :( Exact text of any error message(s) that appeared:"Email(s) could not be sent successfully."Any workarounds that you have found:Do not attempt to include the recipient's name in the "To:" field, but this is less than an ideal solution.
