    Slow opening on Windows

    frenchtotototofrench

      Summary

      Slow opening on Windows

      Product

      FileMaker Server

      Version

Filemaker 8 and 10 (for test purpose)

      Operating system version

Mac OS 10.5, Mac OS 10.6, Windows XP sp3, Windows 7

      Description of the issue

I tested a set of databases, 27 altogether, with a central one that have links with most of the other. When booting the central database on Macintosh or PC's, no problem. When opening the first record, on Mac, no problem, on PC's, it take up to 20 mns.
The databases come from a version 2, then 3, then 5.5.
The "date of the day" automatic function have been converted ayutomatically and is used in almost every database.
When opening the first record, this activates 20 links with display of the informations tied to this record.
Links are based on numeric indexes.
Once the first record is loaded, everything is smooth for the rest of the day.

      Help !

      Expected result

Getting the same time on PC's as on Macs, ie 5 seconds.

      Workaround

      Nothing.

27 databases = 27 different files, correct? Perhaps with large numbers of of external datasource references between the files?

I'd examine those external data source references and confirm that the references work equally well for Mac and Windows, a relative path (file: filename) is your most trouble free reference here. If you have a multi-line reference where line 1 doesn't work for PC's but does work for Mac, you can see major delays with certain types of references as it seems Filemaker takes a long time to figure out the the first reference doesn't work and finally moves down to the next reference.
