Tools>Developer Utilities - file paths not updated

    Fimano

      Summary

Tools>Developer Utilities - file paths not updated

      Product

      FileMaker Pro

      Version

      Pro Advanced 11

      Operating system version

      Mac OS X

      Description of the issue

      http://forums.filemaker.com/posts/b675c349eb
      (still unresolved)
Happens on 26-file solution created with Pro 6 or prior.
Problem seems to be absent in newly created files.

      Steps to reproduce the problem

Open some old (converted) files, rename.
Filename references (as in Manage > External Data Sources) are unchanged, meaning the files cannot 'find' each other.

      Expected result

File references being fixed = updated.

      Actual result

Is the Tools>Developer Utilities not supposed to change file names and references within each file including Scripts, Field References within Define Fields, etc?   I have been trying to use this feature to know avail.

Exact text of any error message(s) that appear

      The normal FileMaker Pro dialog:
"The file XXXXXX could not be opened (Not Found)"

      Configuration information

      Latest OS and FMP versions.

      Workaround

          Thank you for your post.

As mentioned in the linked post, I was unable to replicate the problem with a six file solution.

Is this happening for all files or just certain files?

Keep in mind that beginning with FileMaker Pro 7, you can now have multiple tables in the same file.  Without asking you to send in all of your files, perhaps you should start importing some of the files into new tables in one file.  This would help the performance and remove the possibility of a file could not be opened message.  If you need the files to be separate, then let me know, and I'll provide instructions where to send the files.

Thank you very much. There are 26 files, one of them being the main file. The project right now does not involve consolidating files, so I want the references to reflect the new file names, if possible (which it should be).

Provided normal discretion, I will be happy to send you the files (5,3 GB zipped).

BTW just tried again on 11.0v4 (Mac OS X, 10.6.8) - same problem as before.

I apologize for the late reply.

Yes, I would like to see the files.  I will go into the each of the files and make sure the file references are correct.  Check your Inbox at the top of this page for instructions where to send the file.
