The trial version of the software should have all of the features that the full version does. What happens when you try to create a new database from a starter solution or insert images?
Note that Insert Picture options will be disabled unless you first click in a container field to tell FileMaker where to insert the picture.
I uninstalled and reinstalled my trial copy. Now, I can insert images in a starter solution (I don't think the program installed correctly the first time), but still not into a new spreadsheet. I click in the field, but the INSERT options are all disabled: picture, quicktime, sound, file.
Is the field of type container? (That's the only type of field into which you can insert pictures and such.)
"Is the field of type container?" I'm not sure what you mean. If it's this: Open new database. I double click in one of the containers under "Field". I see the cursur in the container. Go up to INSERT...it's all disabled. I guess I don't follow.
If you can see the cursor, it's the wrong type of field for inserting a picture or other file.
Open Manage | Database | Fields
You'll see a list of fields defined in your database. Each has a specific assigned data type: text, number, date, time, calculation and Container are all different field types.
If you click on/in a field of type container, you'll be able to use the insert options.
Now I get it. Works. But one more question. When I insert the image, it shows up so tiny in the container that I can't make out what is it. I can't figure out how to get the image to sit larger in the container. Any suggestions?
PS. thanks for your help/patience.
A picture inserted into a container field normally is scaled out to edges of either the top/bottom or sides of your field.
You can make the container field larger by resizing it in layout mode. While in layout mode, you can also check out the format settings for this field on the Data Formatting section of the Inspector. These options control how the image resizes or is cropped to fit the limits of the field.
