If you create a small test file with a few text fields, does the new file show the same issue?
If it works without a problem, try recovering your file, perhaps it was damaged in a way that didn't cause problems for the older version but does for v5...
The second reboot and restart seems to have resolved the issue.
I'm running into the exact same problem. However, I've tried creating a new database and with a single text field, and I can't paste into it either.
Update: It doesn't happen on the Windows 7 Pro machine that is hosting the database. It was also updated to v5. I will try uninstalling / reinstalling FMP on the local client.
Uninstalled and reinstalled using the full v5 installer. Also found other data on other threads and found some work arounds.
If copy/cut/paste within FileMaker it works.
If I highlight text in another application and drag/drop it into the field, it works.
If I use cntrl-C / cntrl-V or right click copy/paste from another application, nothing happens.
Tested with Notepad ++, Google Chrome, and Firefox. In each case I highlighted the same text. I was able to drag and drop all of them, but not copy paste. I was able to paste into NotePad ++ where I couldn't in FileMaker.
Hope that helps. I'm tempted to downgrade to the previous version. Any reason why I shouldn't?
Thank you for your posts.
After installing FileMaker Pro 13.0v5, did you reboot the computer?
Are you able to copy from FileMaker Pro and paste into FileMaker Pro? Are you able to paste from FileMaker Pro into another application?
I did not reboot after the initial install. But I had to boot up the computer this morning after shutting it down last night. The issue remains:
- I can cut/copy and paste within FM Pro.
- I can cut/copy from FM Pro and paste to another app
- I can select text from another app (such as .pdf, web page or text file) and drag and drop it into FM Pro
- I cannot cut/copy from another app and paste into FM Pro
Note that I completely uninstalled the previous version before installing with the full installer. I thought maybe there was something wrong with how I updated it.
The tests were run on a completely new file created just for this purpose. The file was saved locally, has only one table with only one text field.
Unfortunately, I don't have any reason why this wouldn't work. On my Windows 7 computer, I launched Chrome, loaded our web site (www.filemaker.com), copied the text "FileMaker News" to the clipboard, launched FileMaker Pro 13.0v5, created a new database file with a Text field "Name", added a record and pasted from the clipboard into "Name".
What version of Windows are you using? What model computer? I'll try to emulate your computing environment here.
I think I figured it out. It's the Webroot anti-virus software that is interfering. I turned it off and was immediately able to paste. When I turned it on again, I was still able to paste. But when I closed FileMaker and re-opened it, I couldn't paste anymore until I turned Webroot off again.
I tried adding filemaker to the trusted files list of Webroot, but it didn't work. I'll keep experimenting with it.
EDIT / UPDATE:
Adding it to the allowed files worked. I just had to reboot both Webroot and FileMaker Pro, in that order. Mystery solved!
