XML import over a proxy server or https

    JonJ

      Summary

XML import over a proxy server or https

      Product

      FileMaker Pro

      Version

      12.0.1.178

      Operating system version

      OSX 10.7.3

      Description of the issue

If I script the import records from XML, using an HTTP request, this works only is the client has a gateway to the internet.  It will fail if the client uses a proxy server or uses https instead of http.  This prevents me using several useful geocoding services in my solutions.
Why doesn't this work, when the webviewer is happy to show webpages over a proxy or SSL?  Don't forget that most high schools use some sort of proxy server.

      Steps to reproduce the problem

script the import of XML data via an http request, when the client is using a proxy server, or if the request needs to be sent via the secure sockets layer.

      Expected result

      records are imported

      Actual result

there is a script error, missing fields.

      Workaround

No workaround if you can't change your client's internet connection.

          Thank you for your post.

Our Testing department shows successful results for importing an XML file over the internet through a proxy server.  The testing included three machines, a web server, a proxy server, and a client.  All outside internet communication was filtered through a proxy using a predetermined port (port number is not important).

Any other information you can provide about your computing environment will be helpful to determine why this is failing for you.

            Hi,

We've had the problem mostly in high schools -- I'll check the setting of some of our clients who have been experiencing difficulties.

            Thanks,

            J.

We have been suffering with a similar problem on FileMaker 11 since we started using it, albeit under Mac OS 10.6.x. The issue was reported, acknowledged and reproduced by one of FileMaker's engineers. We were wondering if FileMaker 12 has resolved it. Perhaps not?

Hi David -- how's things in Cobham?

We're still in the process of checking with our client schools on 12 with a proxy -- hopefully this week or next we should have some results.

                  Thank you for your post.

This was a problem reported during the FileMaker Pro 11 timeframe (October, 2010), and ithe report shows it was fixed in FileMaker Pro 12 using the testing environment mentioned in my previous post.

I don't see any mention of your name or school.  Do you recall who you contacted?  Your original issue may be logged elsewhere and I can check the status to see if it was fixed in FileMaker Pro 12.

                    Hi,

We didn't submit the problem here. Instead, we emailed back and forth with Mark in UK Customer Support who passed it along to the US. We initially contacted Mark in September 2010. Apparently the US succeeded in reproducing the problem in October, so may be this is the same issue.
