This is pretty simple to set up now so I'm not sure why it would be important to make this a built in feature. A common approach is a "check box" format where the check boxes are really buttons that perform a script that build a list of primary keys to "select" records. Such a list of primary key value then makes producing the desired found sets very straight forward and each user can set up their own sets for this purpose without "collisions" between users.
As i primary said, i know that workarounds exist. But :
You first have to "patch" a lot of commands. Try to summarize all commands and functions actually based upon the found set.
The layouts building become more complex, adding buttons checkbox and conditional formatting in order to mimic the expected behavior.
All that multiplied by all solutions and all developers to finally get (or try to) a so common behavior.
And finally, i am almost sure, a lot of work for half convincing results...
To me, it is one of the most important leak of FileMaker UI.
