Thank you for your post.
At this time, auto-complete is not available in iOS. When you tap a field formatted as drop-down list, the value list appears, and the keyboard appears for direct entry into the field.
I recommend entering this suggestion into our Feature Requests web form at:
The entries into this web form populate a database file that is hosted by Development and Product Management. Each entry is reviewed and considered for possible future implementation. Although I could copy your post and paste it into the web form, there are a few questions asked that only you can answer.
I have been able to adapt the "search portal" method used in this demo file to work in FM GO:
It will update "tap by tap" as you enter more characters into the search field above the portal.
To open this file in FileMaker 12 or newer, use Open from FileMaker's File menu to open the file.
I have been using this on one of my layouts for years and it is the best search function I've ever used. It used to take up too many pixels to have on every layout but now that popover buttons are available, I can use them everywhere! Thanks Phil!
I have removed that file from my Drop box as I have replaced it with:
Adventures In FileMaking #2 - Enhanced Value Selection
It has the same examples but with a number of additional methods added and all documented in much more detail than found in the original file.
Love the above link. So helpful. I an working on something like your auto complete II page. It would appear that filemaker go still does not allow for autocomplete. It there a way to make that work on an iPad yet?
It's the same software and thus the same limitation. I've set up auto-updating filtered portals on my iPhone that work fine though I have to dismiss the keyboard temporarily to see the full list on the screen. That would not be a limitation on the iPad and the larger layouts possible on an iPad would allow you to put one of these inside a popover to produce a result not terribly different from a drop down list or pop up menu.
