Delete saved PDF in filemaker go

      Post

I have a PDF from my database saved in fm go, I no longer need this PDF but cannot figure out how to delete it from my ipad. Any assistance would be appreciated. I'm a new iPad/fm go user. Thanks, Allison

          Thank you for your post.

When launching FileMaker Go on your iPad, the left side of the screen displays the Files on Device.  Find the PDF file, swipe from left to right, and the option to Delete will appear.

Let me know if you need additional clarification.

Supplementary Question: Is there a way to script the deletion of the file by setting a filepath and exporting a null field to the filepath?

FileMaker Pro can only delete a file using a Send Event step or Perform Applescript step; both of which are unavailable with FileMaker Go.

Well, I can delete a file in the following manner:

                  Set Variable [ $_Path; Value:"file:/" & Get ( SystemDrive ) & "MyFile.txt" ]

                  Export Field Contents [ “$_Path” ]

…or something like that. I haven't checked the $_Path syntax.

Does FMI insist that this doesn't work? It does for me.

I just stumbled over here from FM Forum, having spent a few hours trying to install FMGo on an iPad.  Just wondered what other kinds of 'fun' are in store for me.

And 'Yikes!' - I seem to be able to delete files like this, too (from FM11 client) - no warning or anything... (The syntax was fine.)

Well, don't be shocked, Sorbsbuster, it's a very handy technique and a lot of developers' solutions would break if FMI took this (I think undocumented) feature away.

Thank you for the solution, but I can only make this work for FileMaker Pro.  That is, I am unable to make this work with FileMaker Go.  I've tried substituting Get (SystemDrive) with Get (TemporaryPath), but the original file is not removed.  I've saved the $_Path variable to text fields for both the creation and deletion paths so I can compare.  Any other details you can provide would be appreciated.

I'm a bit closer to making this work.

I create my path with Get(FilePath)

I then substitute the current file name for the one I want to delete

I then export the field contents of an empty container.

The result is no error message from the OS and the file is shown as zero size in FMG but sadly it is still shown. I cannot get FMG to refresh the list and if another file with the same name arrives by email it gets a number added to it's name - so I still have to swipe to delete. Arrg
