Check your firewall setting on MacBook. Goto 'System Preferences' -> 'Security & Privacy' -> Firewall -> advanced.
Thanks you were spot on, incoming connections for filemaker were blocked
HI. Saw this old post. its May 2014 and getting same error using FMP 13 with FMP GO.
"Either the host is not available, or the file is not available on that host" I obtained my iMac's IP from Sys Pref -> Sharing. I enabled Sharing. I then typed in my file's name into the FMP Go app but got that error. Also happens if I type in for path: myIPaddress/my file's name
My firewall is off so that is not the cause. Other solutions?
In FM on the computer, did you go into the file menu, and turn on file sharing. Follow the instructions, It will give you the IP address you need to connect
Yup - In FM on my iMac, I went to the file menu, and turned on file sharing. Got the IP address which I pasted into my iPad's FMP Go. It thus appears to see my iMac when I go to Hosts.
I also have file sharing on in System Pref's - and even specifically added for sharing my FMP 13 folder that encloses my FMP file.
In the iPad's FMP Go, I then type in the file name (both by itself as well as in the file path eg with iMac IP preceding file name) - but that is when the error message comes up.
Much appreciated! Jack
Are You in a local network or 'outside of Your Office'? FileSharing is dpnot needed, the communication goes via fmnet (between FileMaker hosts and clients).
On the iPad, the hosts must appear, when clicking on a host, its files must appear (at least when on a local network -> the wifi network)
