When you tried saving a database, were you trying to save a file's changes or save a database from the desktop to the device or vice versa? Just to verify, changes to the database are saved automatically by default. To move a file from the desktop to the device or from the device to the desktop you will need to transfer the file.
You can review Knowledge Base article 7754 which provides a walkthrough of transferring files here.
At this time, there is no automatic syncing feature between FileMaker Go and Pro. Instead, you will need to transfer files from the device back to the desktop and use FileMaker Pro's import feature to update databases.
